Connecting you with us

1

Our first call

When you book your 15 minute consultation, I’ll give you a call to determine if I’m the best fit for your needs. If so, we’ll move onto step two.

2

Initial Evaluation

For your first session (90 minutes), we’ll discuss what’s going on with you. I’ll help you create goals for therapy, and we’ll make a plan of action to determine which services are best for you.

3

Commitment

We’ll meet weekly or biweekly virtually or in person. Length of individual therapy is usually 6-12 months, but depends on the individual. Other services are time focused or drop-in as needed.

FAQs

  • We will collect payment in full from you at the time of service. If you have a PPO type plan and want to submit a claim for out-of-network reimbursement, we can give you a receipt or submit a claim on your behalf to help facilitate any reimbursement you may be entitled to. Please note that submitting an insurance claim means I will need to give you a mental health diagnosis.

  • We are an out-of-network provider, which means we don’t accept payment from insurance companies directly. Your plan, however, may reimburse you a portion of your financial investment if you have out-of-network coverage.

Here are some questions to ask your insurance provider:

    a. What are my routine behavioral health care benefits?

    b. Do I need a referral from my primary care doctor?

    c. What is my deductible and have I met it?

    d. What amount do you cover for out of network providers?

    e. What credentials must my therapist have for me to receive reimbursement? (My therapist is an LCSW).

  • When a therapist accepts payment from an insurance company, in return, they must submit a diagnosis and provide ongoing documentation of your treatment. Your privacy is important to us and we believe your treatment should stay between you and your therapist. Additionally, policy benefits change constantly, and often without warning – quite possibly at a crucial point in your therapy. By taking financial responsibility for your treatment, you are in full control of your services.

  • Therapy is an opportunity to discuss/talk about issues that are important to the client, while having a trained objective person (Therapist) help work through not only the current situation but in dealing with similar situations in the future. Therapy can be about one specific problem, or it can be about multiple. Something to mention, is that therapy is a collaborative event, it requires an active role from both the client at the therapist for change to occur.

  • Therapy sessions are typically 45-50 minutes. Clients typically meet on a weekly or bi weekly basis depending on the client’s needs. Length of time while in therapy will depend on the individual client’s circumstance. The therapist and client will determine that together.

  • The initial session will be an initial assessment to discuss the client’s history and needs for treatment. During this first session the client will have the opportunity to see how therapy will work, review office policies, privacy and confidentiality, as well as determine whether or not they are comfortable with the therapist.

  • There are too many benefits of participating in therapy to list! Therapists can provide support, problem solving skills and coping strategies for a wide range of issues. Therapists, being objective, can provide a different or a fresh perspective on a problem that you have been struggling with.

Benefits of therapy depend on your commitment and level of readiness. Some benefits can include, boosting self confidence or improving self esteem, improving communication skills, learning/finding new coping skills, attaining a better understanding of yourself, changing old patterns and developing new ones, or managing your emotional feeling such as sadness, anger or other highly charged emotions you may be feeling.

  • Basically, whatever you say in therapy, stays in therapy. However, there are times when a therapist is legally obligated to break confidentiality:

Harm to self or others. If a therapist believes that you are in imminent danger of hurting yourself or someone else, a family member, police or ambulance will be called to ensure safety.

A child under the age of 16 or older adult in care is in danger. In these cases Family and Children’s Services or the police will be called.

Your files are subpoenaed by the court or by the College of Registered Psychotherapists.

A client experienced a health emergency during a session. In this case, medical staff would be provided only with necessary information. No information about why a client is in therapy will be shared.

Some therapists carry confidentiality into the community. We inform clients that if we see them in the community we will not say hello. We don’t want to put anyone is a situation where they have to explain how they know us. We are always open to speaking to clients outside of the office, but they get to make first contact.

  • We only work with adults aged 18+ (not children or couples). We do not conduct child custody evaluations nor do I provide custody recommendations. We also don’t provide treatment for eating disorders, psychotic disorders (schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, etc), or personality disorders. Due to state licensing laws, we can currently only provide therapy and counseling to individuals residing in Michigan.

  • You are READY and WILLING to do whatever it takes to achieve your goals. You are ready to invest time, energy, and financial resources to become the higher version of yourself.

  • All counseling sessions are currently conducted via a secure and easy-to-use telehealth platform (similar to Zoom or Skype). We are not providing any in-person counseling at this time.

  • You’re welcome to follow our professional social media pages. We don’t follow, friend, comment, respond, or make other similar connections on social media with clients, or their family members or friends. This is to protect your confidentiality and privacy. If you choose to follow us on social media, it’s at your own risk. Please note, this is not a way to contact us for any reason, especially an emergency.

  • We require 24 hours notice of cancellation or you will need to pay the $100 late cancellation/no-show fee. An occasional exception may be made in the case of an emergency. It’s important that we meet consistently in order to make progress.
